Indications

It is also used for antifungal prophylaxis in neutropenic patients at risk of invasive fungal disease.
How Zia-IT 200 Capsule Works
Zia-IT 200 targets fungi specifically. Fungi need a substance called ergosterol to keep their cell membranes intact. Itraconazole blocks the enzyme that makes ergosterol, causing the fungal cell membrane to become leaky and unstable — eventually killing the fungus or stopping it from multiplying.
Mechanism of Action
Itraconazole is a synthetic triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 14α-demethylase (CYP51), the enzyme responsible for converting lanosterol to ergosterol, a critical component of the fungal cell membrane. Depletion of ergosterol results in increased membrane permeability, disruption of membrane-bound enzyme function, and ultimately arrest of fungal growth (fungistatic) or cell death (fungicidal at higher concentrations). Itraconazole has a broad spectrum covering dermatophytes, Candida, Aspergillus, and dimorphic fungi.
