Cefixime is an oral third-generation cephalosporin used widely in India for urinary, respiratory and enteric infections. The 200 mg dispersible tablet (DT) can be swallowed or dispersed in water, which helps patients who find tablets hard to swallow. This guide covers its uses, dose, safety and responsible-use points, and how Biozia supplies it as Cefzia-200 DT Tablet.
Biozia manufactures cefixime as a dispersible tablet:
| Brand | Composition | Packing |
|---|---|---|
| Cefzia-200 DT Tablet | Cefixime 200 mg (Dispersible Tablet) | 10×10 Alu/Alu |
Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins in bacteria and stops them from building their cell walls, which kills the bacteria. It is active against many common gram-negative organisms and some gram-positive ones, and its long half-life allows once- or twice-daily dosing.
The usual adult dose is 200 mg twice daily or 400 mg once daily, for the duration prescribed by the doctor. The DT tablet can be swallowed whole or dispersed in a small amount of water and taken immediately. Doses are adjusted in severe kidney impairment.
The most common side effects are diarrhoea, loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain and headache. Severe or bloody diarrhoea during or after treatment needs urgent medical attention.
Oral cephalosporins are a backbone of anti-infective prescribing in Indian clinics and hospitals. Cefzia-200 DT fits an antibiotic range alongside Biozia’s other anti-infectives, including injectables, giving franchise partners coverage from community clinics to hospitals.
