Ziapant-40 Injection contains Pantoprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce the production of stomach acid. The injectable formulation is used in hospital settings when patients cannot take oral medication, providing fast and effective acid suppression to protect the stomach and oesophagus.
Manufactured by Biozia Lifesciences, Ziapant-40 Injection is prescribed in conditions requiring rapid control of acid-related complications, including bleeding ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and patients on acid-generating medications in critical care.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Indicated for the short-term intravenous treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) when the oral route is not feasible, treatment and prophylaxis of peptic ulcer disease and stress ulceration in hospitalised patients, management of pathological hypersecretory conditions including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and adjunct therapy in H. pylori eradication regimens when parenteral administration is required.
Ziapant-40 works by blocking a specific pump (the proton pump) in the stomach's acid-producing cells. By shutting down this pump, it dramatically reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes. This gives the stomach lining and oesophagus a chance to heal and protects against damage from excess acid.
Pantoprazole is a substituted benzimidazole that irreversibly inhibits the hydrogen-potassium ATPase (H+/K+ ATPase) enzyme — the gastric proton pump — on the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. After parenteral administration, pantoprazole is absorbed rapidly and concentrated in the acidic environment of the parietal cell canaliculi, where it is converted to the active sulphenamide form that covalently binds to cysteine residues (particularly Cys-813 and Cys-822) of the H+/K+ ATPase, producing irreversible acid suppression that lasts until new pump proteins are synthesised (24–48 hours).
Pantoprazole is one of the most prescribed medications in hospitals worldwide. As a proton pump inhibitor, it is highly effective even in patients with severe acid hypersecretion — with a single 40 mg intravenous dose capable of raising stomach pH above 4 for more than 12 hours.
Ziapant-40 Injection is given as an intravenous injection or infusion by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinical setting, exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The frequency and duration of treatment depend on your medical condition and clinical response.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects may include headache, diarrhoea, nausea, and mild abdominal discomfort. Rarely, injection site reactions may occur. Long-term use may affect magnesium levels and bone density. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
PPIs like Pantoprazole can be taken indefinitely without any concern.
While generally safe for short-term and medium-term use, long-term PPI use may affect magnesium, calcium, and B12 levels and slightly increase the risk of certain infections. Your doctor will review the need for continued use.
Antacids and PPIs work the same way.
Antacids neutralise acid already in the stomach for quick but short-lasting relief. PPIs like Pantoprazole block the production of acid at the source, providing sustained, deeper acid suppression.
