Visiquin Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin 0.5% w/v, a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic formulated for ophthalmic use. Moxifloxacin has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and is one of the most widely prescribed antibiotic eye drops for treating bacterial eye infections.
Visiquin Eye Drop penetrates ocular tissues effectively, achieving therapeutic concentrations in the anterior chamber of the eye — making it effective not only for surface infections but also providing broader tissue coverage than many earlier-generation antibiotic eye drops.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and bacterial keratitis caused by susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Moraxella catarrhalis. Also used as peri-operative prophylaxis in cataract and other anterior segment surgeries.
Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic that works by attacking two essential enzymes that bacteria need to copy and repair their DNA. Without these enzymes functioning, bacteria cannot reproduce and eventually die — clearing the infection from the eye.
Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone that acts as a dual inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV — both enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. By simultaneously inhibiting both targets, moxifloxacin is bactericidal across a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Dual targeting also significantly reduces the probability of resistance development compared to earlier fluoroquinolones that primarily inhibited a single topoisomerase. Moxifloxacin is preservative-free, improving tolerability and suitability for repeated dosing.
Moxifloxacin was the first fourth-generation fluoroquinolone developed specifically for ophthalmic use with a preservative-free formulation. Its ability to achieve intraocular drug concentrations above the MIC for most common ocular pathogens makes it one of the few topical antibiotics that can provide coverage not just at the surface but within the interior tissues of the eye.
Use Visiquin Eye Drop as prescribed by your ophthalmologist. For bacterial conjunctivitis, it is typically applied multiple times daily for a course of several days. Do not stop the drops early even if the eye looks improved — complete the full course prescribed.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Moxifloxacin eye drops are generally well tolerated. Mild stinging, burning, or eye irritation immediately after instillation may occur. Eye redness or a mild watery discharge may be noticed initially. Rarely, an allergic eye reaction may occur. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
All red, watery eyes are infections that need antibiotic eye drops.
Red, watery eyes can be caused by allergies, dry eye, viral infections, or foreign bodies — none of which respond to antibiotics. Antibiotic eye drops like Visiquin are only effective against bacterial infections. Always have an eye doctor confirm the cause before starting antibiotic drops.
Stopping antibiotic eye drops after a day or two is fine once the eye looks clearer.
Stopping early leaves some bacteria alive, which can lead to recurrence or antibiotic resistance. Always complete the full course prescribed by your doctor.
