Farovon-200 Tablet contains Faropenem Sodium equivalent to Faropenem 200 mg. Faropenem is an oral penem antibiotic from the beta-lactam family, related to - but distinct from - the injectable carbapenems.
It has a broad spectrum of activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and anaerobes, and is stable against many beta-lactamase enzymes that make bacteria resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Indicated for the treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections caused by faropenem-susceptible organisms, as prescribed by a registered medical practitioner and in line with antimicrobial stewardship guidance.
Farovon-200 kills bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Without a strong cell wall, the bacteria break apart and die, helping the body clear the infection.
Faropenem binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell membrane, inhibiting the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. This leads to a defective cell wall and bacterial lysis. Its penem structure confers stability against many beta-lactamases, including several penicillinases and cephalosporinases.
Because faropenem belongs to the same broad family as carbapenems - antibiotics reserved for the most serious hospital infections - Indian antimicrobial guidelines encourage careful, prescription-only use of faropenem to help preserve the effectiveness of these critical drugs.
Take Farovon-200 Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, at evenly spaced times, with or without food. Complete the full course even if you start feeling better.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects include loose stools or diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain and skin rash. Rarely, severe diarrhoea (which may indicate C. difficile infection) or allergic reactions can occur. Seek medical help for severe or bloody diarrhoea, breathing difficulty or swelling of the face.
A stronger antibiotic always works faster.
The right antibiotic is the one that targets the specific bacteria causing the infection. Using a broader antibiotic than needed adds to resistance without faster recovery.
Antibiotics can be stopped once symptoms improve.
Stopping early may leave bacteria behind that can come back stronger. Always complete the prescribed course.
