Oflozia-200 is an antibiotic tablet containing Ofloxacin 200 mg, belonging to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics. It is prescribed for a variety of bacterial infections affecting the urinary tract, respiratory system, skin, and other body sites.
Ofloxacin in Oflozia-200 is known for its broad antibacterial spectrum and good tissue penetration, making it effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is commonly used in clinical practice for infections where other antibiotics may be insufficient.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Ofloxacin is indicated for susceptible bacterial infections including uncomplicated and complicated urinary tract infections, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urethral and cervical gonorrhoea. It demonstrates activity against Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Ofloxacin in Oflozia-200 kills bacteria by interfering with their ability to copy and repair their own DNA. Without functional DNA, bacteria cannot reproduce or survive, allowing the body's immune system to clear the infection. It is effective against a wide range of bacterial types.
Ofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone that exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial type II topoisomerases — DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. Inhibition of these enzymes prevents DNA supercoiling, strand-break repair, and chromosomal segregation during bacterial replication, leading to double-strand DNA breaks and rapid bacterial cell death. It demonstrates concentration-dependent killing kinetics.
Fluoroquinolones like Ofloxacin are among the few oral antibiotics that achieve high enough concentrations in the kidneys and urinary tract to treat even complicated kidney infections effectively.
Oflozia-200 is usually taken with or without food, at evenly spaced intervals as prescribed by your doctor. Drink plenty of water during treatment. Always complete the full prescribed course and do not stop early without medical advice.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and stomach discomfort. Some people may experience increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight. Rarely, tendon pain or allergic reactions may occur. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Fluoroquinolone antibiotics are only for severe hospital infections.
Ofloxacin is widely used for common outpatient infections like urinary tract infections and bronchitis. Your doctor prescribes it when it is the most appropriate choice for your specific infection.
You can skip doses if you feel fine.
Skipping doses allows bacteria to survive and become resistant. Always take every dose at the scheduled time and complete the full course.
