Oflozia-OZ is a combination antibiotic tablet containing Ofloxacin 200 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg. Ofloxacin provides coverage against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic organisms, while Ornidazole addresses anaerobic bacteria, Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia lamblia, and Entamoeba histolytica.
How Oflozia-OZ Tablet Works
Ofloxacin in Oflozia-OZ kills aerobic bacteria by disrupting their DNA copying process, while Ornidazole targets and destroys anaerobic bacteria and parasites by damaging their genetic material. Together, they attack a much broader range of harmful microorganisms than either drug could handle alone, making the combination particularly effective for gut and gynaecological infections.
Mechanism of Action
Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication and inducing bacterial cell death. Ornidazole, a second-generation nitroimidazole, is reduced intracellularly by low-redox-potential ferredoxin-like proteins in anaerobic organisms, producing cytotoxic nitro radical anions that cause DNA strand breakage and disrupt nucleic acid synthesis in anaerobes, Giardia, Entamoeba, and Trichomonas. The synergistic dual mechanism ensures coverage of both aerobic and anaerobic pathogens.
