FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP (S/F) is a sugar-free haematinic syrup containing Ferric Ammonium Citrate IP 250 mg, Vitamin B12 5 mcg, and Folic Acid IP 0.5 mg per dose, formulated with Sorbitol. This combination supports the production of healthy red blood cells by providing iron alongside the essential co-factors Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid needed for complete haematopoiesis.
FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP is recommended by doctors for iron-deficiency anaemia, folate deficiency, and combined nutritional anaemia. The palatable syrup form with Sorbitol base makes it suitable for children, pregnant women, and patients who prefer a liquid iron supplement.
This medicine is commonly used for:
FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP is indicated as a nutritional supplement in the management and prevention of iron-deficiency anaemia, combined iron and folate deficiency, and Vitamin B12 deficiency-related megaloblastic anaemia. It is particularly indicated during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and childhood when nutritional demands for iron, folate, and Vitamin B12 are elevated. Ferric Ammonium Citrate provides absorbable elemental iron; Folic Acid supports erythropoiesis and DNA synthesis; Vitamin B12 is essential for myelin synthesis and normal erythrocyte maturation.
FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP supports the body's red blood cell production at multiple levels. Iron is the essential component of haemoglobin — the protein that carries oxygen in the blood. Folic Acid ensures that new red blood cells are formed correctly and in the right numbers. Vitamin B12 helps keep red blood cells normal in size and shape, and also supports nerve health. Together, these three nutrients address the most common nutritional causes of anaemia.
Ferric Ammonium Citrate is an iron complex in the ferric (Fe3+) form; it is reduced to ferrous iron in the acidic environment of the stomach and upper duodenum before absorption via DMT-1. Once absorbed, iron is incorporated into haemoglobin in erythroid precursors and into iron-storage proteins. Folic Acid is reduced intracellularly to tetrahydrofolic acid (THF), which is critical for one-carbon transfer reactions involved in purine and pyrimidine synthesis and thereby for DNA replication and erythropoiesis. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) acts as a cofactor for methionine synthase (regenerating methionine from homocysteine) and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, both critical for normal neurological function and erythrocyte maturation; its deficiency leads to megaloblastic changes and hypersegmented neutrophils.
Folic Acid in FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP is especially important for pregnant women — adequate folic acid in early pregnancy has been shown to reduce the risk of neural tube defects (such as spina bifida) in the developing baby by up to 70%, which is why it is a cornerstone supplement in antenatal care worldwide.
FERROZIA PLUS SYRUP should be taken as directed by your doctor. It is generally best taken between meals for optimal iron absorption. If it causes stomach discomfort, it may be taken with a light meal. Do not take with milk, tea, or antacids. Follow your doctor's prescribed dose and duration.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Darkening of stools is a normal, harmless effect of iron supplementation. Mild nausea, stomach discomfort, or constipation may occasionally occur. These effects are usually transient. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Iron supplements cause permanent constipation.
Some patients experience mild, temporary constipation with iron supplements, especially in higher doses. Drinking plenty of water, eating fibre-rich foods, and using liquid iron formulations like FERROZIA PLUS (which are generally gentler on the gut) can significantly reduce this effect.
Only pregnant women need iron and folic acid supplements.
Iron and folic acid deficiency can affect anyone — children, adolescents, adults with poor dietary intake, and people with chronic illness. FERROZIA PLUS is appropriate for any patient in whom deficiency is identified by a doctor.
