Coldrox-DMR Tablet is a five-ingredient cough and cold combination containing Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, Cetirizine Hydrochloride, Ambroxol Hydrochloride and Guaifenesin. It is designed to address the common cluster of cold symptoms - cough, blocked nose, sneezing, runny nose and chest congestion - in a single tablet.
Each ingredient targets a different symptom: Dextromethorphan calms the cough reflex, Phenylephrine relieves nasal congestion, Cetirizine controls allergic symptoms such as sneezing and watery eyes, while Ambroxol and Guaifenesin help loosen and clear mucus.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough, nasal congestion, rhinorrhoea, sneezing and mucus congestion associated with the common cold, allergic rhinitis and upper respiratory tract infections in adults, as prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.
Coldrox-DMR works on several cold symptoms at once. One ingredient quietens the urge to cough, one opens up a blocked nose, one reduces sneezing and runny nose caused by histamine, and two help thin and loosen mucus so it is easier to clear from the airways.
Dextromethorphan is a centrally acting antitussive that raises the threshold of the cough centre in the medulla. Phenylephrine is an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist that constricts dilated nasal blood vessels, reducing mucosal swelling. Cetirizine is a second-generation H1-receptor antagonist that blocks histamine-mediated sneezing, itching and rhinorrhoea. Ambroxol is a mucolytic that breaks down mucopolysaccharide fibres and stimulates surfactant secretion, while Guaifenesin is an expectorant that increases the volume and reduces the viscosity of respiratory secretions.
Most common colds are caused by viruses and get better on their own within 7 to 10 days. Combination products like Coldrox-DMR do not shorten the infection itself - they relieve the symptoms so you can rest and recover more comfortably.
Take Coldrox-DMR Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually after food with a glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not take more than the prescribed dose and do not use it for longer than advised.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, headache and stomach upset. Phenylephrine may occasionally cause restlessness, palpitations or a rise in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Antibiotics help a common cold get better faster.
Colds are usually viral, and antibiotics do not work against viruses. Symptomatic relief, rest and fluids are the mainstay of treatment unless a doctor diagnoses a bacterial infection.
Taking two cold medicines together gives faster relief.
Many cold medicines share the same ingredients. Combining them can lead to accidental overdose of decongestants or antihistamines. Use only what your doctor prescribes.
