Ziacox-90 Tablet contains Etoricoxib 90 mg, an intermediate-to-higher strength selective COX-2 inhibitor used for more acute or intense pain and inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis flares, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute musculoskeletal pain. It is more potent than the 60 mg dose while remaining selectively targeted to the COX-2 enzyme.
Ziacox-90 provides strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects with a once-daily convenient dosing schedule. It is prescribed for patients whose pain requires a greater level of COX-2 inhibition than the standard 60 mg dose can provide.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Etoricoxib 90 mg is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and acute musculoskeletal pain in adults. It is also used for short-term management of acute postoperative pain including dental surgery. This dose offers a balance between more potent inflammation control and once-daily convenience.
Ziacox-90 works exactly like other Etoricoxib formulations — by selectively blocking the COX-2 enzyme that produces pain-causing prostaglandins. At 90 mg, the effect is stronger, making it suitable for conditions that need more intensive anti-inflammatory treatment. It targets inflammation at the source while minimising gastrointestinal disturbance.
Etoricoxib at 90 mg achieves higher peak plasma concentrations than the 60 mg dose, resulting in more complete inhibition of COX-2 enzyme activity and greater suppression of PGE2 and PGI2 synthesis. This translates to more potent inhibition of peripheral nociceptor sensitisation and vascular permeability at inflammatory foci. Selectivity for COX-2 over COX-1 is maintained, preserving gastric mucosal prostaglandins. Central prostaglandin synthesis inhibition in the spinal cord and brain also contributes to the analgesic effect, particularly relevant for acute pain indications.
Ankylosing spondylitis — a common indication for Etoricoxib 90 mg — is a chronic inflammatory condition that primarily affects the spine and can cause the vertebrae to fuse over time. Regular anti-inflammatory treatment is central to preventing progression, and COX-2 inhibitors are among the first-line medications recommended in international treatment guidelines.
Ziacox-90 should be taken once daily as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food. Use only for the duration and at the dose your doctor recommends. Do not self-adjust the dose or take it for longer than directed.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Side effects are similar to other Etoricoxib doses and include headache, oedema, raised blood pressure, and stomach discomfort. The risk of cardiovascular effects is relevant at this dose with prolonged use. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Taking a higher NSAID dose will cure my arthritis.
NSAIDs like Etoricoxib in Ziacox-90 are anti-inflammatory and analgesic — they control symptoms but do not cure or halt the underlying joint disease. For disease-modifying treatment of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, separate disease-modifying medicines (DMARDs) are required.
If a 60 mg tablet works, a 90 mg tablet will work twice as well.
The relationship between NSAID dose and effect is not simply linear. The 90 mg dose is indicated for specific conditions requiring more intensive therapy. Taking a higher dose than necessary increases the risk of side effects without proportionally greater benefit.
