Ziacox-T4 Tablet is a dual-action pain relief combination containing Etoricoxib 60 mg and Thiocolchicoside 4 mg. Etoricoxib is a selective COX-2 inhibitor that reduces inflammation and pain in joints and tissues, while Thiocolchicoside is a muscle relaxant that relieves painful muscle spasms — a frequent companion to musculoskeletal pain conditions.
This combination is particularly valuable for patients suffering from back pain, neck pain, or other musculoskeletal conditions where both inflammation and muscle tightness contribute to discomfort. Ziacox-T4 addresses both components simultaneously in a single convenient tablet.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Ziacox-T4 is indicated for the symptomatic management of acute and subacute musculoskeletal pain conditions in adults where both inflammation and reflex muscle spasm are contributing to the clinical picture, such as lumbago, dorsalgia, cervicalgia, myalgia, and musculoskeletal sprains. Etoricoxib provides prostaglandin-mediated inflammation control while Thiocolchicoside acts as a centrally acting myorelaxant.
Etoricoxib in Ziacox-T4 reduces pain and inflammation by selectively blocking the COX-2 enzyme. Thiocolchicoside works on the central nervous system and spinal cord to relax tight or spasming muscles, breaking the cycle of pain causing muscle contraction which then causes more pain. Together, they provide faster, more complete relief for most musculoskeletal pain scenarios.
Etoricoxib selectively inhibits COX-2, suppressing PGE2 synthesis at inflammatory foci and reducing nociceptive sensitisation. Thiocolchicoside acts as a competitive antagonist at GABA-A receptors and glycine receptors in the spinal cord, reducing the hyperexcitability of motor neurons responsible for reflex muscle spasm. The net effect is simultaneous reduction of both prostaglandin-driven peripheral inflammation and centrally mediated muscle spasticity, providing superior multimodal analgesia compared to either agent alone in painful muscle-spasm conditions.
Muscle spasm is not just a secondary symptom of back pain — it is also a primary driver of it. When joints or discs are irritated, surrounding muscles contract reflexively to protect the area, but this sustained contraction itself becomes painful and can compress nerves. Thiocolchicoside in Ziacox-T4 directly interrupts this spasm cycle.
Ziacox-T4 is taken once or twice daily as prescribed by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food. This combination is typically prescribed for short to medium-term use for musculoskeletal pain — follow your doctor's instructions regarding duration.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects include drowsiness (from Thiocolchicoside), headache, stomach discomfort, oedema, and raised blood pressure (from Etoricoxib). Thiocolchicoside may cause loose stools in some patients. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Muscle relaxants make you unconscious or fully sedated.
Thiocolchicoside in Ziacox-T4 works selectively on spinal motor circuits and causes mild relaxation and possible drowsiness, not unconsciousness or heavy sedation. Most patients can function normally, though they should be cautious about driving.
An NSAID alone is enough for back pain.
When back pain involves significant muscle spasm, an NSAID targets only the inflammatory component. Adding a muscle relaxant like Thiocolchicoside (in Ziacox-T4) directly addresses the spasm component, providing more comprehensive relief.
