Oflozia Suspension contains Ofloxacin 50 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic formulated as a suspension for easy administration, particularly suitable for children and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets.
Ofloxacin works against a wide range of bacterial infections and is commonly prescribed by doctors for infections of the ear, eye, urinary tract, and gastrointestinal tract, making Oflozia Suspension a versatile antibiotic option.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Ofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, including acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, complicated urinary tract infections, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, skin and skin structure infections, and infectious diarrhoea. It is also used in the treatment of acute otitis media in paediatric patients.
Ofloxacin kills harmful bacteria by interfering with their ability to copy and repair their genetic material, which they need to survive and multiply. Without this ability, the bacteria cannot reproduce and eventually die off, allowing your body to recover from the infection.
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. Inhibition of these enzymes leads to double-strand DNA breaks, disruption of chromosomal integrity, and ultimately bacterial cell death. It demonstrates concentration-dependent killing and a post-antibiotic effect against susceptible organisms.
Ofloxacin belongs to the fluoroquinolone class of antibiotics, which were among the first antibiotics engineered in a laboratory rather than derived from natural sources, making them a landmark in the history of antibiotic development.
Oflozia Suspension should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or without food. Shake the suspension well before each use. Always complete the full course as directed, even if you start feeling better early.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, or dizziness. Some people may notice skin sensitivity to sunlight. These are usually mild and resolve on their own. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
Antibiotic suspensions are weaker than tablets and less effective.
Suspensions contain the same active ingredient and provide equivalent therapeutic effects. The suspension form simply makes it easier to swallow and allows for flexible dosing, especially in children.
You can stop the antibiotic course once you feel better.
Stopping early can leave some bacteria alive, leading to a relapse of infection or the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Always complete the full course as prescribed.
