Ziapred 4 Tablet contains Methylprednisolone 4 mg, a synthetic corticosteroid used to suppress inflammation and immune responses in a wide variety of conditions.
Methylprednisolone is prized for its potent anti-inflammatory effects and favourable benefit-risk profile at lower doses, making it useful in short courses for allergic reactions, inflammatory conditions, and autoimmune flares.
This medicine is commonly used for:
Methylprednisolone is indicated as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent for conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, acute allergic and hypersensitivity reactions, bronchial asthma, pemphigus, dermatological conditions such as severe psoriasis, and as part of organ transplant rejection prophylaxis regimens.
Methylprednisolone works by calming the body's immune response — reducing the production of inflammatory chemicals that cause redness, swelling, pain, and tissue damage. At low doses, it provides effective inflammation control while minimising the side effects associated with higher steroid doses.
Methylprednisolone binds to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors, which translocate to the nucleus and regulate gene transcription. This results in upregulation of anti-inflammatory proteins (lipocortin/annexin-1) and downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alpha), COX-2, and phospholipase A2. Additionally, it reduces lymphocyte count and decreases vascular permeability, suppressing both the cellular and humoral arms of the immune response.
Methylprednisolone has a slight molecular advantage over Prednisolone — the addition of a methyl group makes it approximately 25% more potent, meaning lower milligram doses achieve the same clinical effect with somewhat less fluid retention.
Ziapred 4 Tablet is best taken in the morning with food or milk to mimic the body's natural cortisol rhythm and reduce stomach irritation. Always take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor and do not stop the tablet abruptly if you have been taking it for more than a few days.
Always follow the dosage and schedule advised by your doctor — this is general guidance only.
Short-term use is usually well tolerated. Common effects include increased appetite, mild mood changes, and indigestion. Prolonged use can affect blood sugar, bone density, and immunity. Tell your doctor if any side effect is severe or persistent.
All steroids are harmful and should be avoided at all costs.
Corticosteroids like Methylprednisolone are important and evidence-based medicines when prescribed appropriately. Short-term use for genuine inflammatory conditions is generally safe and very effective under medical supervision.
You can stop steroid tablets as soon as symptoms improve.
Abruptly stopping steroids after even a short course can cause a rebound in symptoms or, after longer courses, trigger adrenal insufficiency. Always follow your doctor's tapering instructions.
